EchoStar to Open Customer Service Center in El Paso, Texas, to Serve Growing Demand for DISH Network Satellite Television

LITTLETON, Colo.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Aug. 20, 1999--

EchoStar To Hold Hiring Expo On Wednesday, Aug. 25, in El Paso to Begin Filling 2,000 Customer Service Jobs for EchoStar's Fourth Customer Service Center EchoStar Communications Corp., (NASDAQ: DISH, DISHP) announced today that it will build an inbound sales and customer service center in El Paso, Texas, to serve DISH Network™ satellite television customers nationwide. The 104,000-square-foot facility is expected to create as many as 2,000 jobs and continue the revitalization of a city-designated enterprise zone in East El Paso. Once completed, this will be EchoStar's fourth customer service center.

El Paso, located on the southwestern tip of Texas, was EchoStar's top choice for locating its newest and largest state-of-the-art customer service center after considering locations in 1,500 U.S. cities as well as reviewing the final seven. EchoStar will begin the first phase of its hiring process by accepting applications for management positions, including those in human resources, information technologies, inbound sales and customer service, training, and facilities, on Wednesday, Aug. 25, from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. at the El Paso Convention Center located at No. 1 Civic Center Plaza on Santa Fe Street.

"El Paso, Texas, was a logical choice over the other cities because the city scored the highest on our list of criteria for meeting the needs of a customer service center," said Soraya Hesabi-Cartwright, senior vice president of Sales, Customer Service and Human Resources for EchoStar. "In our search, we looked at the labor force, population, wages, business costs and the unemployment rate."

"Jerry Ayoub, owner and president of 5 Star Development, and his team, including Mike Hogan and Eric Mayer, provided us with a great location that will allow us to continue our swift pace of extraordinary growth and contribute to the expansion of the city's East El Paso enterprise zone," she continued. "Also, this project would not have been possible without the foresight and support of Mayor Carlos M. Ramirez; Jeff Moseley, executive director of the Texas Department of Economic Development; Tom Thomas, senior vice president of Economic Development for the Greater El Paso Chamber of Commerce; and Roberto Franco, director of the city of El Paso's Economic Development Office," she added.

EchoStar initially expects to employ 350 inbound sales and customer service representatives in El Paso. A temporary training center for new employees will open until completion of EchoStar's new facility later this year. The new EchoStar facility will be located at the intersection of Joe Battle and Loop 375 in East El Paso in a newly developed business area and will include a 1,500-space parking area as well as state-of-the-art technology and design.

EchoStar currently has three inbound sales and customer service centers with over 3,000 customer service representatives in Littleton and Thornton, Colo., and in McKeesport, Pa., who are available 24 hours a day to answer programming, billing and technical questions from DISH Network customers across the nation. EchoStar offers competitive wages and benefits.

EchoStar started DISH Network in 1996 and has since launched four satellites that broadcast over 350 premium entertainment, news and pay-per-view TV channels as well as audio, video and data services that are delivered direct to U.S homes through a small dish antenna. EchoStar plans to launch two more high-powered satellites in 1999 that will offer consumers, for the first time, 500 channel choices using one small dish. EchoStar, with its Riverfront headquarters in Littleton, Colo., currently employs over 4,000 employees nationwide.
