DENVER--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Sept. 2, 1999--
EchoStar to Deliver Digital DISH Network Satellite Television
Services As Additional Tier to Castle Cable's Analog Service for
EchoStar Communications Corp. (NASDAQ: DISH, DISHP) and Castle
Cable Services, Inc., a private cable TV service provider since 1993,
announced today at the 1999 Private and Wireless Show in Denver a
joint agreement that will offer EchoStar's DISH Network™ digital
satellite entertainment television service to residents of apartments
and other multi-family residential complexes served by Castle Cable.
This agreement will allow EchoStar to expand into the multiple
dwelling unit (MDU) market by potentially exposing more than 20,000
apartment units serviced by Castle Cable to the hundreds of channels
offered by DISH Network.
Castle Cable's customers will have the opportunity to receive
DISH Network programming in addition to Castle Cable's on-property
cable channels. Castle Cable will receive customer orders, provide
billing services and distribute DISH Network satellite receivers to
customers who subscribe to the service.
Where offered, DISH Network's digital television programming
packages will be an optional additional tier of service available to
Castle Cable basic and expanded basic cable customers. After the
launch of EchoStar's fifth satellite on Sept. 10, DISH Network will be
able to offer over 500 crystal-clear, CD-quality audio and video
channels providing entertainment television, local broadcast TV
networks and international programming.
"EchoStar is pleased to partner with Castle Cable, a leading
private MDU cable service provider in the U.S.," said Jim DeFranco,
EchoStar's executive vice president. "This agreement gives Castle
Cable a more cost-effective way to expand its pay television services
while at the same time increasing EchoStar's sales efforts into the
MDU market. EchoStar will now have access to a larger number of MDU
customers who will have full advantage of the more than 500 channel
choices DISH Network has to offer."
"We are delighted to have entered into an alliance with
EchoStar," said Robert Speicher, president and CEO of Castle Cable.
"This enhancement of our service offering is a key component of our
mission to provide superior products and services to multi-family
residential communities." He noted that he expects Castle Cable to
begin this new service on selected properties in the next few months.
